Mediterranean House Design: See Your Own House in the Style

This AI Mediterranean house design tool works on the outside of a house you already have. Galleries show Mediterranean houses that were built that way from the start. Your house is probably something else: siding, a grey shingle roof, a plain front door. Upload a photo of the front of your house (or a sketch of one), choose the Residential type and the Mediterranean style, and ArchitecturesAI renders the same view in that style. Then ask for the details you want with a sentence: the wall colour, the tile, an arched entry, iron grilles. The result is an idea picture. It does not know your structure, your climate or your budget, and it is not a plan or a quote.

Front of a two-storey house with beige horizontal siding, a grey shingle roof, white-framed windows, a double garage on the left, a plain white front door, a lawn and a concrete driveway under an overcast sky

Before: beige two-storey house with a grey shingle roof (AI-drawn stand-in for a photo)

The same house with smooth cream walls, a terracotta tile roof, an arched dark wooden front door, black bars over the two ground-floor windows and a small black railing at the upper right window, with the same garage door, lawn and driveway

After: cream stucco, terracotta tile roof, arched wood door

Both images are AI-generated with our own image model. The "before" is an AI-drawn stand-in for a photo of a house; it is not a real house. Edit prompt used: "Change ONLY the exterior style to Mediterranean: make the walls smooth cream stucco, replace the grey shingle roof with a low-pitched terracotta barrel tile roof, give the front door an arched opening with a dark wood door, and add black wrought iron grilles on the windows. Keep the house shape, the number and position of the windows, the garage, the lawn, the driveway and the camera angle exactly the same." What followed it: the beige siding became smooth cream walls, the grey shingles became terracotta tiles on the main roof, the garage roof and the small roof over the door, the white door became a dark wood door in an arched opening, and the house shape, the garage door, the lawn, the driveway and the camera stayed in place. What differs from the prompt: the window "grilles" are plain straight black bars on the two ground-floor windows only, not wrought iron scrollwork; the upper-right window got a small black railing instead of bars, and the other two upper windows got nothing; and the pattern of the lawn changed a little. The picture does not show how stucco would be applied over real siding; ask a contractor.

What makes a house Mediterranean

The style borrows from the coasts of Spain, Italy and Greece, so no two descriptions agree on every detail. Redfin, in its guide to the Mediterranean style house, lists the features most people look for: a red terracotta tile roof, walls of white stucco or brick, arched doorways and openings, ornamental ironwork around windows, balconies and doors, and courtyards with terraces and gardens. Photo galleries of Mediterranean exteriors, such as the ones on Houzz, show the same set: stucco in white or warm tones, tile roofs, stone or brick accents, wrought iron and entry courtyards.

This page is about the look of the outside: what your own house would be like in that style. It does not tell you whether your walls, roof structure or local rules allow it.

How to try a Mediterranean exterior on your own house

  1. In the editor above, upload a photo of the front of your house, taken straight on and in daylight, with the whole roof in view. A sketch or a clay-model render also works. Sign in with Google or email when asked.
  2. Keep the Residential type selected and choose the Mediterranean style. Render mode has no text box: the style you pick sets the look, and the upload decides the shape.
  3. Generate. Free accounts can only use Low quality (Medium and High are marked PRO). Run it a few times: each result differs.
  4. To ask for the details, use Custom Action or Edit Image on the result and describe them in a sentence: the wall colour, the roof tile, an arched door, iron grilles, and what must stay the same, such as the garage, the windows and the camera angle. Each edit is another render and uses credits.
  5. Compare the result with your house. The roof, the windows and the door are the first things to check, because the AI sometimes changes them.
  6. The examples on this page ran directly on our image model with the written instructions shown, not through the editor above, so your result will differ.

Mediterranean details to ask for

Three looks, each shown above:

  • A full restyle of a plain house: stucco walls, tile roof, an arched door and window grilles, as in the first example.
  • A brick house turned white: stucco over brick, a tile roof and an arched entry with a gate, as in the second example.
  • A sketch turned into a finished house: stucco, tile edges, arched windows, shutters and cypress trees, as in the third example.

What the AI keeps and what it may change

Use this as a checklist when you compare a result with your house.

  • Usually kept: the shape of the house, the garage, the position of the windows and the camera angle stayed in all three examples above.
  • Often different from the prompt: how many arches appear, what the ironwork looks like, and whether the roof is fully tiled. In the third example only two windows got arches, and in the second the brick is still visible in several places.
  • Often added without being asked: a railing, a gate, a changed lawn pattern, trees and a warmer light.
  • Sometimes wrong: details of the door and the entry, and the stucco texture, which can look flat or painted-on.
  • Never produced: dimensions, wall build-ups, the roof structure for heavy clay tile, or anything a permit office or a builder can use.
Front of a single-storey red brick house with a low grey shingle roof, a brick chimney, two white-framed windows, a white front door under a small white gable, a short concrete path and a lawn

Before: single-storey red brick house with a grey roof (AI-drawn stand-in)

The same house with white stucco walls, a terracotta tile roof, an arched entry with the brick still showing inside it and a small curved iron gate in front of the door, and low white pillars on each side of the entry

After: white stucco, tile roof, arched entry with an iron gate

An AI-generated pair made with our own image model. The "before" is an AI-drawn stand-in for a photo, not a real house. Edit prompt used: "Change ONLY the exterior style to Mediterranean: cover the brick walls in white stucco, replace the grey roof with a terracotta clay tile roof, turn the front door into an arched entry, and add a low white stucco wall with an iron gate in front of the door. Keep the house shape, the window positions, the lawn, the path and the camera angle exactly the same." What followed it: the brick walls became white stucco, the grey shingles became terracotta tiles, the entry became an arch with a small iron gate in front of the door, and the house shape, the window positions, the chimney, the lawn, the path and the camera stayed in place. What differs from the prompt: it asked for a low stucco wall with a gate, and the picture shows two short white pillars with a gate between them, right against the door; the brick was not fully removed (it still shows inside the arch, under the windows and on the step, and the chimney is still brick); the white siding of the little gable over the door became white stucco; and the window frames turned from white to cream. Whether a house can really be covered in stucco, and what that costs, is a question for a contractor.

Before you commit to the style

Redfin notes that the thick walls around doors and windows help keep these houses cool in warm climates, so the style is as much about heat as about looks. Clay tile is also heavy, so a roof built for shingles may not carry it, and the walls have to take the stucco. A roofer or an engineer has to check both; neither can be judged from a picture.

Use the picture to decide whether you like the idea and to brief a contractor, a designer or an architect. They will have to confirm what your house can take, give you a price and draw it for approval. Check the rules of your area too, such as an owners' association or a historic district, before you order anything.

A black pencil line sketch on white paper of the front of a two-storey house with a gable roof, a smaller gable in the middle, three windows on the upper floor, two windows and a door with a glass panel on the ground floor

Before: line sketch of a two-storey house (AI-drawn stand-in for a hand sketch)

A photo-like render of the same house with cream stucco walls, a roof edged in terracotta tiles, arched tops on two upper windows, dark brown wooden shutters on every window, a natural wood front door and cypress trees on the lawn in warm evening light

After: sketch turned into a cream stucco house with shutters and cypress trees

An AI-generated pair made with our own image model. The sketch is an AI-drawn stand-in for a hand sketch, not a real drawing. Edit prompt used: "Turn this line sketch into a realistic photo of the same house, in the Mediterranean style: cream stucco walls, a terracotta tile roof, arched windows with dark wooden shutters, an arched front door, with a lawn and a few cypress trees in front. Keep the house shape, the gable roof, the door and window positions and the camera angle exactly the same." What followed it: cream stucco walls, a roof edged in terracotta tiles, dark wooden shutters, cypress trees and a lawn, and the gable shapes and the positions of the windows and the door stayed as drawn. What differs from the prompt: it asked for an arched door and for arched windows, and only the two outer upper windows have an arched top; the other windows and the door are rectangular; the roof is seen from the gable end, so only a thin line of tile is visible; and the picture added trees, a garden and warm evening light that the sketch does not have. Running it again gives a different house.

AI picture, a gallery or an architect?

  • ArchitecturesAI. Upload your own house or sketch, choose the style, get a picture back. Good for comparing looks on your house; not to scale and not a design for approval.
  • A photo gallery such as the ones on Houzz. Real Mediterranean houses to get ideas from, but they are other people's houses.
  • A designer or an architect. Drawings, material choices and a permit. Needed before anything is built or changed.

Free tier and plans

You need a free account to render. New accounts get 2 free renders, and free renders carry a watermark. In India this site does not include free renders, so a paid plan is needed there. Weekly, monthly and yearly plans for more renders without the watermark are on the pricing page.

The houses and the sketch on this page are AI-drawn, not real properties. The examples were run directly on the model, not through the tool above, so your own render may look different.

Frequently asked questions

What does a Mediterranean house exterior look like?

According to Redfin, the usual features are a red terracotta tile roof, white stucco or brick walls, arched doorways and openings, decorative ironwork and courtyards. Houses in the style are inspired by Spain, Italy and Greece, so the details vary.

Can AI show my house in a Mediterranean style?

It can redraw a photo of your house with stucco walls, a tile roof and an arched door, keeping the shape and the camera. It can also change details you did not ask for, as in the examples on this page, so check the result against your house.

Is the picture to scale or a design I can build from?

No. It is an idea picture. It has no dimensions, no wall build-up and no roof structure, and it is not a permit drawing.

How do I ask for arches or iron grilles?

Render mode has no text box. Choose the Mediterranean style, generate, then use Custom Action or Edit Image on the result and describe the detail in a sentence, such as arched front door and black iron bars on the ground-floor windows. Results vary, so run it a few times.

Can I start from a sketch instead of a photo?

Yes. Upload a clean line sketch of the front of the house and choose the style. In our third example the AI kept the gable shapes and the window positions, but it did not give every window an arch.

Why did the AI change parts of my house I did not mention?

The model redraws the whole picture, and small things such as railings, trim, the roof edge or the lawn can change. Run it again, and in a follow-up edit say what must stay exactly the same.

Is it free to try?

Yes. After you sign in, a new account gets 2 free renders with a watermark. In India this site does not include free renders. Paid weekly, monthly and yearly plans are listed on the pricing page.
