AI Farmhouse Design: See Your Own House as a Modern Farmhouse

A farmhouse look is a change of style, not only of colour: the siding runs vertical, the roof turns to metal, the window frames go dark and a small porch often appears over the door. Upload a photo of the front of your house, pick the Residential type, and ArchitecturesAI renders the same view; then describe the farmhouse changes in a sentence. The result is an idea picture. It does not know your structure, your budget or the rules where you live, so it helps you decide what to ask a builder about, and it is not a plan or a quote.

Front of a two-storey house with beige horizontal siding, white-framed windows, a grey shingle roof, a pale green front door on a small concrete stoop, white downspouts, shrubs along the wall, a lawn, a concrete path and a wooden fence

Before: beige two-storey house with a grey shingle roof (AI-drawn stand-in for a photo)

The same house with white vertical board-and-batten siding on both floors, a dark standing-seam metal roof on the main roof and on the lower roof across the front, black window frames and black gutters, with the same windows, pale green door, stoop, shrubs, lawn and path

After: white board-and-batten siding, black metal roof, black window frames

Both images are AI-generated with our own image model. The "before" is an AI-drawn stand-in for a photo of a house; it is not a real house. Edit prompt used: "Change ONLY the exterior style to modern farmhouse: replace the beige siding with white vertical board-and-batten siding, replace the grey shingle roof with a dark charcoal standing-seam metal roof, and make the window frames black. Keep the house shape, the number and position of the windows, the front door, the stoop, the lawn, the path and the camera angle exactly the same." What followed it: the horizontal beige siding became white vertical board-and-batten on both floors, the grey shingles became dark metal roof panels with long vertical ribs (on the main roof and on the lower roof across the front), the window frames turned black, and the house shape, the windows, the door, the stoop, the shrubs, the lawn, the path, the fence and the camera stayed in place. Extra changes we could see: the gutters and the corner downspouts turned black (the downspout beside the door stays white), the small gabled hood over the door became a raised panel in the lower metal roof, and the white window trim of the "before" is gone. The pale green front door was not in the prompt and stayed as it was. A real farmhouse restyle also needs details the picture does not show, such as the batten spacing, the trim and the flashings.

What an AI farmhouse design tool does

A farmhouse design tool shows your own house in a different style, so you can judge the look before you ask for quotes. Many AI exterior tools work from a photo: they keep the camera and the shape of the building and redraw the materials and details as you describe them. Some work from a text prompt only, with no photo of your house.

The farmhouse look in the examples on this page is made of a few changes you can ask for one by one: vertical board-and-batten siding, a dark metal roof, black window frames and a small porch with wooden posts. The tool does not know your structure, your local rules or what a given product costs.

How to try a farmhouse look on your house with ArchitecturesAI

  1. Click "Try a farmhouse look on your house". The Render Architecture tool opens with Residential selected under Architecture Type. Sign in with Google or email.
  2. Under "Please select an image", click Select Image and upload a JPG or PNG of the front of the house. Use a level, daylight photo with the whole front in frame, taken from far enough back to see the roof edge.
  3. Pick the Style closest to the look you want (25 in total) and generate. Free accounts can only use Low quality (Medium and High are marked PRO).
  4. To ask for the farmhouse changes, use Custom Action or Edit Image on the result and describe them in a sentence: the siding, the roof, the window frames, the porch, and what must stay the same. Each edit uses credits. Run it a few times, since each result differs.
  5. The examples on this page ran directly on our image model with the written instructions shown, not through this tool, so your result will differ.

Farmhouse changes you can try

  • White vertical board-and-batten siding with black window frames and a dark metal roof on a two-storey house, as in the first example.
  • A dark board-and-batten gable on a white house, with a natural wood front door, as in the second example.
  • A small covered porch with a sloping metal roof and wooden posts over the front door, as in the third example.
  • Only the siding, only the roof or only the window frames, to see which change matters most before you try all of them.
  • A different colour for the front door (black, natural wood, deep green) with the rest of the farmhouse look left alone.

After: white board-and-batten siding, black metal roof, black window frames

Both images are AI-generated with our own image model. The "before" is an AI-drawn stand-in for a photo of a house; it is not a real house.

What the AI keeps and what it may change

Use this as a checklist when you compare a result with your house.

  • Usually kept: the camera angle, the overall shape of the house (not always, see the roof below), the position of the windows and the door, the lawn, the path and the neighbours.
  • Often changed without being asked: the roof (it turned to metal in the third example even though the prompt said to keep it, and in the second example a new gable replaced the hipped roof end), the gutters and downspouts, the lamps beside the door and small details such as vents.
  • Sometimes different from what you asked: where a colour stops (the dark siding in the second example also covers the wall around a window) and how thick the window frames look.
  • Sometimes wrong in physical terms: a porch roof with no visible beam, posts or gutters, or siding with no joints or trim.
  • Never produced: measurements, a materials list, a quote or a check on whether your walls and roof can take the change.
Front of a two-storey house with beige stucco walls, a brown shingle roof, a double garage door on the left, a front door with a small arched window above it, white-framed windows, clipped hedges, a lawn and a wide concrete driveway

Before: beige stucco house with a brown roof and a double garage (AI-drawn stand-in)

The same house with white walls, a dark navy-black board-and-batten gable above the garage with a small louvered vent, a dark wall around the arched window, dark frames on the windows and a natural wood front door, with a new steep gable roof end above the garage and the same brown shingle colour, tan garage door, hedges, lawn and driveway

After: white walls, dark board-and-batten gable, wood front door

An AI-generated pair made with our own image model. The "before" is an AI-drawn stand-in for a photo, not a real house. Edit prompt used: "Change ONLY the exterior style to modern farmhouse: paint the walls white, add dark vertical board-and-batten siding on the upper gable above the garage, make the window frames black and the front door natural wood. Keep the house shape, the roof, the garage door, the windows' positions, the lawn, the driveway and the camera angle exactly the same." What followed it: the beige walls became white, the gable above the garage became dark vertical board-and-batten, the front door became natural wood, and the tan garage door, the hedges, the lawn, the driveway and the camera stayed in place. What differs from the prompt: it asked to keep the roof and the house shape, but the low hipped roof end over the left upper wall was replaced by a new steep gable with a peak and an overhang, so the roofline changed (the shingle colour and the lower roof over the garage stayed); the dark siding also covers the wall around the small arched window on the left, the window frames read as thick dark outlines or surrounds more than as frames, and a small louvered vent appeared in the gable (not asked for). The window above the garage and the arched window keep their positions. The picture does not show how white paint on stucco would behave on a real wall; ask a painter or a plasterer.

From the idea to a real farmhouse restyle

The image is for deciding what you like and for explaining it to a builder. Adding a porch changes the structure and the roof line, and a new metal roof or new siding depends on what is under it. In many places a porch, a roof change or a change of materials needs approval, and some neighbourhoods have their own rules on materials and colours. None of that can be read from a picture. Show the image to a builder or your local authority and ask what is possible on your house.

For a wider choice of wall materials and colours, see the house facade page; for adding rooms, see the house extension page; and for a porch on its own, see the porch page.

Front of a small single-storey house with beige horizontal siding, a low grey shingle roof with a brick chimney, two white-framed windows, a white front door with two wall lanterns, a small concrete step, mulched beds, a lawn and a short path

Before: small beige single-storey house with a grey roof (AI-drawn stand-in)

The same house with white vertical board-and-batten siding, black window frames, a black front door under a small covered porch with a sloping dark metal roof and two square wooden posts, a dark standing-seam metal main roof, black gutters, with the same chimney, step, mulched beds, lawn and path

After: white board-and-batten, black door, small wood-post porch

Both images come from our own image model. The "before" is an AI-drawn stand-in for a photo, not a real house. Edit prompt used: "Change ONLY the exterior style to modern farmhouse: replace the beige siding with white vertical board-and-batten siding, make the window frames black, add a covered front porch over the door with a sloping dark metal roof and two square wooden posts, and paint the front door black. Keep the house shape, the main roof, the window positions, the lawn, the path and the camera angle exactly the same." What followed it: the siding became white vertical board-and-batten, the window frames turned black, a small covered porch with a sloping dark metal roof and two square wooden posts appeared over the door, the door turned black, and the house shape, the windows' positions, the chimney, the step, the beds, the lawn, the path and the camera stayed in place. What differs from the prompt: it asked to keep the main roof, and the grey shingles became dark standing-seam metal anyway. Other extra changes we could see: the gutters and downspouts turned black, and the two wall lanterns beside the door are no longer visible, and the small box that sat lower on the wall to the left of the door now sits right beside the left post. The porch is a small canopy, not a full-width porch.

AI idea picture, a builder or a design service?

  • ArchitecturesAI. No setup: upload a photo, describe the farmhouse changes and get a picture back. Good for comparing looks; not to scale and not faithful to every detail of a product.
  • A contractor or a siding and roofing supplier. Shows or quotes real products, and leads to a priced job, but takes a visit and a wait.
  • An architect or a building designer. Drawings, structure and the paperwork for approval. Needed before any change to the structure or the roof line.

Free tier and plans

You need a free account to render. New accounts get 2 free renders, and free renders carry a watermark. In India this site does not include free renders, so a paid plan is needed there. Weekly, monthly and yearly plans for more renders without the watermark are on the pricing page.

The "before" images on this page are AI-drawn stand-ins, not photos of real houses.

Frequently asked questions

Can AI show my house as a modern farmhouse?

Yes, as a concept picture. Upload a photo of the front of your house, then describe the farmhouse changes with Custom Action or Edit Image on the result. It keeps the camera and the shape of the house and redraws the siding, roof, window frames and door as you describe them, but it is not to scale and it does not know the products.

What should I write to ask for a farmhouse look?

Say what changes and what stays: for example, replace the siding with white vertical board-and-batten, make the window frames black, and keep the house shape, the windows, the lawn and the camera the same. In our tests it followed the siding and frame changes closely, but it also changed the roof and removed small details when we had not asked.

Will the picture show how a porch would really be built?

No. The porch in the third example is a small canopy with two posts. A real porch needs a floor, beams, footings and often approval, and the picture shows none of that. Ask a builder what is possible on your house.

Can it show a different house style, not only farmhouse?

It can try other styles. The examples on this page are farmhouse looks only, so we do not show how well other styles work here.

Do I need permission to change my siding, roof or add a porch?

It depends on where you live, the house and the type of change. A porch or a roof change often needs approval, and some areas have rules on materials or colours. A picture does not answer that. Ask your local authority or a professional, and check before you build.

What photo should I upload?

A level photo in daylight with the whole front of the house in frame, taken from far enough back to see the roof edge, with as little clutter as possible. Crop out text and toolbars.

Is it free to try?

Yes. After you sign in, a new account gets 2 free renders with a watermark. In India this site does not include free renders. Paid weekly, monthly and yearly plans are listed on the pricing page.
