AI Carport Design: See a Carport on Your Own Driveway

Before you ask a builder for a quote, it helps to see what a carport would look like on your own house: a flat roof fixed to the side wall, a free-standing pitched roof, or a flat roof with a timber screen. Upload a photo of the front of the house and the driveway, pick the Residential type, and ArchitecturesAI renders the same view; then describe the carport in a sentence. The result is an idea picture. It does not know your plot, how far the roof may reach or how it would be built, so it is a way to decide what you like and to brief a builder, not a plan.

Front of a detached two-storey brick house seen from the street, with a white front door, a lawn, a hedge, and a concrete driveway running up the right side of the house past a bin to a white garage with a dark gate at the far end

Before: brick house with an open driveway (AI-drawn stand-in for a photo)

The same house with a flat dark roof with a white underside fixed to the right side wall and held at the front by one slim black post, open at the front and sides, over the part of the driveway next to the house

After: flat-roof carport on the side wall

Both images are AI-generated with our own image model. The "before" is an AI-drawn stand-in for a photo of a house; it is not a real property. Edit prompt used: "Add a modern flat-roof carport over the driveway on the right side of the house: slim black steel posts and a flat roof with a thin dark edge, joined to the side wall of the house, open at the front and sides. Keep the house, its roof, windows, front door, the lawn and the camera angle exactly the same." What followed it: the house, its roof, windows, front door, the lawn, the hedge, the bins, the garage at the end of the drive and the camera stayed in place, and a flat roof with a thin dark edge now runs out from the side wall, open at the front and sides. What differs from the prompt: it asked for slim black posts and the picture shows only one, at the front corner, which would be a lot for a single post to carry. The roof is fixed to the brick wall between the upstairs and downstairs windows, and it covers only the part of the drive next to the house, not the whole length to the garage. I compared the two images by eye and found no other changes. A real carport needs posts, footings and a roof structure that suit your wind and snow conditions, which a picture does not show.

What a carport visualizer does

A carport is a roof, usually open at the sides, that shelters a car or other things from sun, rain and snow. A visualizer shows a carport idea on a picture of your own house and drive, so you can judge the style, the size and how it changes the front of the house before you ask for quotes. Design software can do this from a measured model, and a builder or a carport supplier can draw it to scale.

AI tools take a faster route. They start from a photo, keep the camera and the main shape of the house, and paint the carport you describe. It is cheap to try several ideas. It does not know your plot, how close the roof may sit to the boundary or how it would be built.

How to try a carport on your house with ArchitecturesAI

  1. Click "Try a carport on your house". The Render Architecture tool opens with Residential selected under Architecture Type and Modern under Style. Sign in with Google or email.
  2. Under "Please select an image", click Select Image and upload a JPG or PNG of the front of the house with the driveway in frame. Use a level daylight photo, with no car on the spot where the carport should go.
  3. Pick the Style closest to the look you want, such as Modern, Minimalist or Rustic (25 in total), and generate. Free accounts can only use Low quality (Medium and High are marked PRO).
  4. To ask for the carport itself, use Custom Action or Edit Image on the result and describe it in a sentence: where it goes, the roof shape, the posts and the colour, and what must stay the same. Each edit uses credits. Run it a few times, since each result differs.
  5. The examples on this page ran directly on our image model with the written instructions shown, not through this tool, so your result will differ. Short instructions can put the roof in the wrong place, as the second and third examples show; say where it goes and what it must not cover.

Carport ideas you can try

  • A flat roof fixed to the side wall of the house over the drive, as in the first example.
  • A free-standing open carport with a pitched or four-sided metal roof, as in the second example.
  • A long flat-roof carport with a timber slat screen along the fence, as in the third example.
  • A carport in front of an existing garage, to cover a second car.
  • A different colour for the posts and the roof: black, white, natural timber or grey.

What the AI keeps and what it may change

Use this as a checklist when you compare a result with your house.

  • Usually kept: the camera angle, the house walls and roof, windows and doors you did not ask it to touch, the lawn and the street.
  • Often redrawn: downpipes near the new roof, fences next to the drive and planting.
  • Sometimes different from what you asked: the number of posts, the roof shape and where the carport sits. The second example asked for a shallow pitched roof and got four sloping sides.
  • Sometimes wrong in physical terms: a roof held up by one post, a roof that floats against the wall, or a carport placed over the front door.
  • Never produced: measurements, a structural design, a drainage plan or a check on planning rules.
Front of a detached single-storey white rendered house with a grey tiled roof, a white front door with two windows on its right and one on its left, a pink-painted side wing on the left, a small lawn, a hedge and a wide concrete driveway in front

Before: bungalow with a wide empty drive (AI-drawn stand-in)

The same house with a free-standing open carport on the drive in front of its left half: four dark timber posts with diagonal braces under a dark grey metal roof with four sloping sides, with the house, door and windows behind it

After: free-standing carport with a metal roof

An AI-generated pair made with our own image model. The "before" is an AI-drawn stand-in for a photo, not a real house. Edit prompt used: "Add a wide open carport on the driveway at the left of the frame, beside the house and clear of the front door: four dark timber posts and a shallow pitched dark grey metal roof, open on all sides, covering the left half of the driveway. Keep the house, its roof, windows, front door, the hedge, the lawn and the camera angle exactly the same." What followed it: the house, its roof, the front door, the windows, the hedge, the lawn and the camera stayed in place, and an open carport with four posts and a dark grey metal roof now stands on the drive. What differs from the prompt: the roof has four sloping sides rather than a shallow pitch, the posts are dark brown rather than natural timber, and the carport stands in front of the left half of the house instead of beside it, so its roof covers most of the pink side wing (which now looks pushed back behind a taller hedge) and part of the left of the front wall. Its right-hand corner touches the canopy over the front door and the nearest post stands just left of the door frame, even though the prompt said to keep it clear of the front door. Other changes: the wall lamp to the left of the door is no longer visible, and the small purple object on the lawn is gone. It covers only a small part of the drive. A first attempt with a shorter instruction put the roof right up against the front door, so the prompt was rewritten to say clear of the front door. A real carport in front of a house also changes how the front looks from the street and may need permission.

From the idea to a real carport

The image is for deciding what you like and for explaining it to others. A real carport needs posts, footings and a roof structure that carry wind and snow, a way to drain rainwater and, in many places, permission or a building regulations check. The rules differ by country, town and house, and the distance from the boundary and the height cannot be read from a picture. Show the image to a builder, a carport supplier, an architect or your local authority and ask what is possible on your plot.

If the carport is part of a bigger change, see the house extension page for adding rooms, or the house facade page for new wall finishes.

Side-on view of a two-storey grey rendered house with dark window frames and a small flat canopy over a glazed door, a block-paved driveway running along the left side beside a wooden fence, a small lawn and the pavement edge

Before: grey house with a paved side drive (AI-drawn stand-in)

The same house with a long flat dark roof fixed to the front wall above the door canopy, slim black posts along the paved drive, and a vertical timber slat screen between the posts on the fence side

After: long flat-roof carport with a timber slat screen

Both images come from our own image model. The "before" is an AI-drawn stand-in for a photo, not a real house. Edit prompt used: "Add a long flat-roof carport over the paved driveway on the left side of the house: it starts at the front of the house and runs along the side wall, with slim black posts standing on the paving at the front corners and a flat roof with a thin dark edge, with a vertical timber slat screen along the fence side. Keep the house, its windows, the lawn, the fence and the camera angle exactly the same." What followed it: the house, its windows, the door canopy, the lawn, the fence and the camera stayed in place, and a flat roof with a thin dark edge now runs along the drive on slim black posts, with a vertical timber slat screen on the fence side. What differs from the prompt or from the old picture: the old grey fence is still visible behind and beside the new slat screen, so it reads as an extra screen in front of the fence; the roof joins the house wall above the door canopy; and the dark downpipe at the left corner of the house disappears behind the roof. The roof sticks out to the left past the fence line. A first attempt with a shorter instruction gave a roof on a single pole and no screen, so the prompt was rewritten and the seed changed. A roof this long needs a real structure and usually permission, which the picture does not show.

AI idea picture, design software or a builder?

  • ArchitecturesAI. No setup: upload a photo, describe the carport and get a picture back. Good for comparing ideas and for talking to a builder; not to scale and not faithful to every detail.
  • Home design software. You draw the house and the carport in 2D and 3D with real measurements. More work, more precise.
  • A builder, carport supplier or architect. Drawings and a quote you can build from, advice on structure and on the local rules. Needed before any work.

Free tier and plans

You need a free account to render. New accounts get 2 free renders, and free renders carry a watermark. In India this site does not include free renders, so a paid plan is needed there. Weekly, monthly and yearly plans for more renders without the watermark are on the pricing page.

The "before" images on this page are AI-drawn stand-ins, not photos of real houses.

Frequently asked questions

Can AI show a carport on my own house?

Yes, as a concept picture. Upload a photo of the front of your house with the driveway, then describe the carport with Custom Action or Edit Image on the result. It keeps the camera and the main walls and paints the carport in, but it is not to scale.

What should I write to describe the carport?

Say where it goes, the roof shape, the posts and what must stay clear, for example a flat roof fixed to the side wall over the drive on slim black posts, open at the front and sides, keeping the house and the front door the same. In our tests a shorter instruction put the roof in the wrong place.

Will the picture show the real size of the carport?

No. From one photo the AI cannot know your plot or how far the roof may reach. Use it to judge style and proportions, and get a scaled drawing from a professional.

Do I need permission to build a carport?

It depends on where you live, the size and type of carport and whether it is fixed to the house. A picture does not answer that. Ask your local authority or a professional, and check before you build.

Can I try a carport in a different colour?

Yes. Describe the posts and the roof colour in the prompt, and run it a few times. The AI may shift the shade, so compare it with a real sample.

What photo should I upload?

A level, straight-on photo in daylight of the front of the house and the driveway, with no car where the carport should go. Crop out text and toolbars.

Is it free to try?

Yes. After you sign in, a new account gets 2 free renders with a watermark. In India this site does not include free renders. Paid weekly, monthly and yearly plans are listed on the pricing page.
