Stucco house colors

Stucco House Colors: See 14 Colors on the Same House

Stucco is one of the easiest surfaces to recolor in a picture and one of the hardest to choose for in real life, because its texture makes every color look a little darker than the chip. Here four stucco houses get 14 colors: warm whites, creamy white, a modern white with dark trim, deep olive, soft black, sandstone tan, muted gray-green, mid gray, terracotta rust, greige, golden wheat, coastal teal, dusty gray and soft peach. Below: roof pairings, trim, sun and how to test a color.

Every picture on this page is one run of our own image model on an AI-drawn stand-in photo, not a real house, and not picked from several tries. Under each picture is the instruction we sent and what changed, including anything that changed that we did not ask for. Colors are approximate: check a real sample before you buy.

Stucco colors by roof

The roof usually stays, so start there. A terracotta tile roof suits warm whites, creams, sandstone, wheat and peach: the Mediterranean and Spanish palette. A gray or black roof suits cooler whites, grays, greens, soft black and teal.

Light, dark and heat

Stucco houses are common in hot, sunny regions, and color changes how hot the walls get. Light colors reflect more sun. Paint makers list a light reflectance value (LRV) for each color: higher numbers reflect more light and heat. Dark stucco like soft black or deep olive looks striking but absorbs more heat and shows fading sooner on sunny walls.

Texture makes colors look darker

The bumps and shadows of stucco texture make a color read a little darker and grayer than the flat chip. Many painters suggest choosing one step lighter than the chip you like, and always painting a test patch of at least a square meter on the wall itself, looked at in morning and afternoon light.

Paint or color coat?

Existing stucco can be painted with a breathable masonry or elastomeric paint, or re-coated with a tinted stucco finish coat that puts the color in the material. Painting is cheaper; a color coat lasts longer between refreshes. Ask a local stucco contractor which suits your wall and climate.

How these pictures were made

Each picture is one run of our own render tool on an AI-drawn stand-in house with the instruction "Repaint ONLY the stucco walls <color>". Captions say what changed and anything else that changed. Color names like "close to Greek Villa" mean the render is near that paint, not an exact match; test real paint on your wall.

Frequently asked questions

What is the most popular stucco house color?

Warm whites and creamy whites lead, followed by sandy beiges, greiges and grays. Deep greens and soft blacks are the popular bold choices.

What stucco color goes with a terracotta roof?

Warm white, cream, sandstone, wheat and soft peach. Cool grays and blues tend to fight the orange of the tile.

Does stucco color look different on the wall?

Yes. The texture makes it look darker than the chip. Test a large patch and consider going one step lighter.

Is dark stucco a good idea in a hot climate?

It looks striking but absorbs more heat and shows fading sooner. Check the color's LRV and use a paint made for sun exposure.

Are these real stucco houses?

No. The before photos are AI-drawn stand-ins and every color is an AI edit. They show how a color reads on a whole house, not an exact paint match.

Can I try a color on my own stucco house?

Yes. Upload a front photo and name the color. After you sign in, a new account gets 1 free render with a watermark.
